The operationalization of the Agency for Monitoring and Evaluating the Performance of Public Enterprises represents a significant step towards improving the performance of state-owned companies.

The Agency for Monitoring and Evaluating the Performance of Public Enterprises (AMPPE) has become operational, leading to the initiation of 40 selection procedures for over 100 members in the Boards of Directors of Public Enterprises.

"In a market where competition dictates winners, performance is an indispensable condition for success. We must clearly understand the situation we are in and, based on data, performance indicators, and vision, take action to change the reality of state-owned companies. The Agency for Monitoring and Evaluating the Performance of Public Enterprises is a step in the right direction to improve the performance of state-owned companies," stated Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu in the message sent at the AMEPPE’s operationalization event.

At the event held at the Victoria Palace, the first public platform for monitoring the performance of state-owned companies was presented, containing a dashboard where financial, non-financial, and corporate governance indicators for public enterprises can be found and accessed. The project was developed in collaboration with the Special Telecommunications Service and represents a premiere for monitoring and publicly reporting the performance of public enterprises.

"The role of the Agency is to instill confidence that the Government can ensure transparency, modernization, and performance of state-owned companies," stated the Chief of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Ghigiu.

"Today's event comes just a few days after a Workshop organized with OECD representatives at the Victoria Palace. We are at a year and a half of work which we have carried out together with several partners whom I thank for their necessary and efficient expertise," stated the Deputy Secretary-General of the Government General Secretariat, Adrian Țuțuianu.

Additionally, the Deputy Secretary-General emphasized that Romania has the most state-owned enterprises in Europe, and it is necessary for AMPPE to provide consolidated reports and propose solutions to improve the performance of public enterprises.

"It is important for the Agency for Monitoring and Evaluating the Performance of Public Enterprises to become an entity that ensures the implementation of corporate governance principles and increased performance of public enterprises," added the Deputy Secretary-General of the Government General Secretariat, Adrian Țuțuianu.

"AMPPE is operational, in line with the requirements provided by law, and I am very confident because we have taken this step in just a few months. We have benefited from the OECD’s assistance and the support of the European Commission because both legislative changes and the establishment of AMEPPE are milestones in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Additionally, through the operationalization of AMEPPE, we have gained an interface through which we can increase Romania's economic performance, with strongly positive effects both for the budget and for state-owned companies," stated Mihai Precup, the President of the Agency.

Agency representatives also presented the section dedicated to public administrators on the AMEPPE platform, where any individual or legal entity can enroll, through a simple form, in the Body of Public Enterprise Administrators.

The AMEPIP platform can be accessed at https://amepip.gov.ro/

Through the website, the dashboard presenting real-time indicators of both state-owned companies and many other relevant information can be accessed.

In addition to the core of excellence in corporate governance built from public administration officials, AMEPPE seeks expertise in the private sector through the 20 opened positions that will be available for candidate’s appliance, in the near future.
